92 maxima
292 000 km
v6 3000

sometimes the engine misfires.. some times it does not. usually when it has not ran for a few days, or when it is cold outside. the odd time i will be on the highway and i will feel the engine slip, rpms drop, and it has dead zones where i press the gas and the engine wont accelerate. when this happens it starts eating fuel, the thermostat drops way down to pretty much starting temp cold, and when it slows down the engine idle rpms go from 0-1200, sometimes it will stall out, usually it wont. If i floor it in this state, it shoots out black smoke (maybe fuel isnt being burnt) i changed my plugs this year, wires last year, fuel filter last year. One of the spark plugs (one of the ones i replaces had some oil beyond the threads)

hope this helps, some of it might be irrelivant.

You really need to have the compression checked with a compression tool to get an accurate reading of what shape the engine is in, cause if the rings are bad theres nothing other than a ring job that would fix it.

Take the oil fill cap off while car is idling.....if its blowing out oil and theres a lot of pressure coming out...rings, the only other seals that are in the head is valve seals and if they were at fault the car would be smoking white. Thats why a compression test is needed,...it could be a valve in the head, but can't tell without test or removing head and have a machine shop check it out.
