Your most likely cause, especially on a car this old, is the oil pressure sending unit. Its an electrical switch turned off when it gets oil pressure, When it gets old it doesn't work right. I would call 23 years pretty old for a sending unit. The part is cheap. If the light for oil pressure stays on you need to shut down your engine and have a mechanical gauge inserted in the sending unit hole to see if this is an engine issue or an electrical one.

It will probably cheaper to just replace the sender before doing the mechanical test. That may be the only problem. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
