I have a 1991 4 Cylinder Toyota Pickup Truck with 280,000 miles. It's a 5 speed manual.
I was at a stoplight and after it turned green I started going, however before I even got into second gear the whole truck started sliding to the left, into traffic. I turned it back a bit and it slid completely to the right, sideways in the road, and drove up over a curb with the front tires resting on a dirt embankment. I got out and saw there was no damage minus a missing hubcap, so I got back in, started it and drove home. It drove fine until I finished turning the corner onto my street, at which point it died. I tried to restart it but it doesn't do anything at all. No sounds or anything. Any ideas what the problem could be?
A side note: It's been lightly raining all day and we've had alot of lighting. It seemed like I hydroplaned, but I don't see how I could have, going so slow.

Keine; I can't figure how this could have happened, either. Not this time of year. If it were icy, maybe? You had better have the whole suspension and tires checked. Just to be safe. Sounds as if there must have been a lot of water on the roadway. Get the vehicle under cover if it's still raining, open the hood and inspect. I'm sure you'll find things wet. Hopefully, it'll dry out on it's own. If you own a compressor, you could try blow-drying. (not a hair dryer, btw).

Actually, me and my dad have done some looking. Apparently the battery and most of it's cables are aftermarket. It wasn't secured properly and when I went over the curb it jostled it. The final turn down my street to my house moved them just enough for it to disconnect and die. So that's one mystery solved, but it doesn't explain how I drifted in such extreme angles. It's been raining lightly as I said on and off all day, so the roads aren't very slick. The only thing I can think is maybe the white smooth crosswalk line was a little wet and slippery and it caused me to slide and lose traction, sending me in the other direction completely when I moved the wheel. But luckily I wasn't hurt, the truck has no apparent damage(got under and saw nothing broken), and I didn't hit anyone else. Can only learn from this kind of situation. I do appreciate your help though.

Keine; Well, that's good news. Those painted crosswalks can be very slippery. Also, if it's the first rain that you've had in a while, it can be VERY slippery out there.

yea, my guess is that your truck is rear wheel drive, you started moving, the back tires started to slip and you didnt let off the gas... also 90% of the time when you crank on a engine and NOTHING happends no lights no cranking, means battery cables are loose or corroded...
