I hope someone can help, my 91 toyota corolla struggles to start i thought it was the battery as when i try start the car its really slow, like a dying battery, so i got a new one and its still the same, but then in saying all this sometimes it starts normally but mostly it dosent, anyway i have replaced spark plugs oil filter, oil change and air filter, and yet it still plays up, once the car is running a puff of smoke came out the tail pipe which it normally didnt do. the motor is just a basic 5 speed 1300 i think, could be 1500. I hope someone can help

Are you saying the starter is slow in cranking the motor? With a new battery that kinda leaves the starter, the battery cables themselves need good connections at both ends and may need replacment. The "puff" of smoke when it does start is not so unusual for and older engine with some miles (??) on it especially if a troubled start up. Back to the slow crank if applicable: Voltage drop while cranking should be noted. A simple voltmeter reading would help to see if starter is drawing too much current, T
