"90 Chevy dies at stops, runs rough Sign In

'90 Chevy van, 5.7, 356K miles, . Sounds like timing is off, backfires rythmically, runs rough especially on acceleration, wants to die at stop in gear, and dies easily on initial acceleration. Once cruising, goes along ok with occasional coughs and slows down up hills, lacks power. I checked timing while running decent and it's right on 4%btc. Occasionally just runs fine but acceleration is slow. Brake lite was flashing 5X pause. Stopped after i disconnected/recon. bat. ground. Can't find vacuum leak yet. Plugs are new. Running fuel pump on direct line to battery cuz it was shutting off after 15 secs from start. Don't know what's related.

With that many miles and age you need (I hope you have) a good history of things known good. Check timing chain for valve timing, as that could be really loose, fuel pressure and distributor shaft for wear.

Gotta check it all - vacuum leaks the whole list.

Brake light? May be park cable doesn't fully release? Should be tight under the vehicle as a clue or perhaps just low fluid. Hard to say with the miles,

I drive an 89 and a 97. Family took a 350/5.7 (1974) to about 1/2 mil mark and sold it running fine but rust up to the roof! One trans job and a couple doable things -other was just routine but we ran synthetic oil and every 3,000 miles or close since new. They can do it............
