89 Silverado, rough idle

Hello, This is my first time posting in this forum so don't be to rough on me. (OE Bosh plugs) I drive a 89 silverado 1500C w/ 5.7. The truck belonged to my grandfather. It only has 142,000 miles on it and was well taken care of. Two months ago I was driving home from working in the mountains( 55 miles) When I stopped at the first light after 45 min of driving my oil pressure gauge dropped to 0 and the idle became very rough. when the light changed as I pulled away a good puff of smoke came out . Checked the oil It was ok. Now the low oil / rough idle happens when the truck gets up to temp. and I come to a stop. Then I noticed when I was pulling a trailer that it doesn't do this as bad when I'm in drive, only overdrive. I've installed new spark plug wires, plugs (OE Ac Delco) dristributer cap, rotor, fresh oil, oil filter, air filter, performed a compression check, checked the oil sensing unit, used a code reader (no trouble codes came up) and still the rough idle /oil pressure. Have you heard of this happening before? Any info you can give on this would be great. thank you for you time. Tracy
