'88 F-150 fuel prob	Sign In

i'm having trouble getting fuel in an '88 f-150 w/dual tanks and a 4.9. i cranked it up and it idled like it had a cam the size of a tree trunk in it and would die when i hit the gas. the front tank got a hole knocked in it last year so it is completely bypassed from the system. i pulled the rear tank and replaced the pump, which did not help. changed the fuel filter and that didn't help either. changed the inertia switch and the fuel pump relay and those didn't do a thing. keep in mind that it is getting fire because you can spray gas in the intake and it fires up. any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated

Make sure you are getting injector pulse. Also, some of the older Ford PUs had an additional fuel pump on the frame rail. If I'm not mistaken, the pumps in the tanks were 'pusher' pumps and the one on the frame rail was for pressure. Could be backwards on that?

you are correct. the high pressure pump is located on the frame rail directly behind the fuel filter and the in tank pump is a "pusher" pump. im a carb guy...how do i check the injector pump?

Check for injector pulse with a noid light. They are very inexpensive, and should be available at most parts stores.
