88 Chevy Blazer timing problem Sign In

I have an 88 K5 Chevy Blazer 5.7L that wont hold timing at 0 deg. I can set the timing, shut it down, tighten the distributor start the engine, check the timing. The timing will advance to 4 deg BTDC. I have tried it several times, and each time it does the same thing. I have replaced ignition modual, ESC modual, & O2 sensor. Could it be the distributor, or the throttle positioning sensor? Sure could use some help.

How many miles on this engine? It could easily be a bad timing chain assuming you have checked the timing correctly.

Are you unplugging the EST wire before checking timing? Its a single brown wire above valve cover . When you unplug it you can then set the base timing. When its plugged back in the computer automatically sets the timing at 4 degree's.

The truck has 125,000 miles. The timing chain is good. I already checked that.

Yes. I did unplug the single wire for timing.

Does the timing advance 4 deg if you do not reconnect the brown wire?
