1987 Ford Taurus 3.0/V-6 140,000 odm/50,000 engine When I try to start the car it won't turn over. It kept trying to even after I took the key out. It did not stop till the battery died. Which was very quick. I had the battery checked yesterday it tested good but needed recharged. I have been having trouble starting the car for a couple weeks thought it was just the cold. I was rear ended 2 week ago don't know if that matters. I don't know alot about cars so be patient with me I don't speak the lingo but I will try to learn.

This vintage had some ignition switch problems AND some the lock cylinder would be screwy too. If key doesn't return to plain run position after trying to start it or key can come out in any position that could be an issue. So far aside from that and the starter staying cranking those are areas to check out and bet you aren't getting spark as a first test but starter staying on it would normally run and make wild noise and potential damage if it stayed engaged after it started, T

They also had some problems with the starter solenoid overheating and sticking. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

That would explain it and if like the inner fender mounted underhood ones easy enough to just replace, T

Just pull the small wire off while it's cranking and see if it stops or not. If it doesn't stop, the solenoid is the problem.

Yep. Used to put a dummy trigger wire on solenoid of a NICE old car I had and parked it in Boston - scared that it wouldn't be there and of course any clever thief would figure that out, T
