I have a 1986 buick park avenue with the 3.8V6 that stopped runing while in park after a 30 minute trip and will not start, this car has 105,900 miles. There is spark that jumps from the plug wire to the top of coil terminal. The check engine light shows a repetative I-II I-II flashing sequence with no other diagnostic information. To check for fuel problem I sprayed starting fluid into the system...which did not help.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Now check for spark at the plugs. I think you have a coil pack system and the coil towers can go nuts. Also think that that code just means the computer is working but not sure on that -- don't have the info near me right now, T

Next we have to check fuel pressure with a guage (32-37 psi is normal), and we have to check injector pulse. If these check out o.k then it's time to do a compression test. The older model 3.8l had a lot of timing chain and gear problems.

A worn out plastic timming gear on 86 Buick Park Avenue
Problem was repaired with new metal timming gear.

Replaced timming chain with a new one, while there.

Car runs like a new one! Thanks Carjunky for your assistance.

Sincerely,

bigiron/Dave
