hi, i have a 85 ranger with the 2.0l 1bbl motor in it. it has 361,410 on the truck (until the timing belt went) i went ahead and swapped motors to the same motor due to no compression and other issues. new motor has unknown miles (but heard over 200k on it) the problem is i either missed a wire, or hooked it up wrong or something like that. what im getting now with the key is dash lights and turn signals etc. sending power to the coil, but not spark, and not sending anything to the starter. with the remote starter trigger to the starter solinoid and the battery it turns over great, exelent compression, valves spit exhaust so obviously getting air in, to let out. just missing the spark. any ideas where to look to get the ignition switch to turn the starter, and send spark to the motor? the main wire harness only has around 12 to 15 wires, i dont remember taking any off when taking apart that didnt get put back on, but im only human, and this is my first motor swap, along with no help (aside from re-aligning the hood back on)

If your going to be a DIY'er you need to learn your way around a basic diagram . Everything is labled on it and wire colors are shown. Starter not working? Take your test light . What ? Well get one. Find the wire color that goes to it and see if its right . Check for power when key is turned. Check all fuses and fuses , they are numbered same as in truck, fuse links are colored same . Got a connector not plugged in ? Match the colors and see what it goes to . It's not that hard and you will be the envy of your friends . Who knows , maybe they will start coming to YOUR house during the game looking for advise.
