83' ford thunderbird solenoid problem

My car has been sitting out on the street for about a year now, I've been under the impression that it only needed a solenoid to fix it. I just didn't need the car so I never got around to it. The other day I put it in and tried to start the car, and it did what it always does. Tries to start but then fails and tries to start again and fails. I took the key out of the egnition and it wouldn't stop. I had to go pull the battery cable off. If I touch the cable to the battery again the car tries to start by itself. I have no idea what to do now.

I think that solonoid is on the inner fender. If you take off the small wired plug that should just pull off the car shouldn't send power on to starter when you hook up the battery. If it does the solonoid is stuck in connected mode to send power to the starter and a new solonoid should fix that. If that little wire has power when you are not asking the car to start that is the problem with an ignition switch or some wiring fault that will need chasing down.
That type of problem with the solonoid is a bit rare but it happens,
