OK, looked through Ford Ranger search and found some good info about fuel problems. My poor bright orange OSU Beaver p/u has been sitting in my driveway rusting for about 3 months (ok, it was already rusted). I paid $250.00 for it. It ran great for a little while but then the radiator blew up so the heater core was bypassed and a brand new radiator was purchased ($400.00!). I was using a little electric plug in goody for heat and it worked fine. Now, the engine starts but as soon as I take my foot off the gas, it dies. No time to even change gears. About how much will I be charged if I ask a shop to check the fuel pressure? (Of course, towing the thing to the garage is going to cost me at least a 12 pack but that's do-able I guess.) Is there actually a brain in this old car? Someone told me it was the brain. Is the new fuel filter that was behind the seat a hint? Thanks in advance for the advice. Im unsure of your location, But around here we would charge an hours labor $92.00 for diagnostic. ( Nj ) there could be a few things to look at. Fuel filter clogged, other fuel delivery problems, an igniton problem , timing.. could be somthing as simple as a carb idle adjustment ASE A1-A8, MECP Basic MECP Master Hunter Front end specialist Moog Front end certified

Thanks. That's what bugs me. I can do a lot of my own work but fuel pumps a bit tough on this rig I think. Happy new yr. Trying to get 500.00 out of her so can't justify. Cb Cindy in Silverton via the Oregon Coast

Cindy; This should have a carburetor? Is it the four or six cylinder engine? With the ambient temps low, it's possible that the choke isn't adjusted properly. We charge an hour's labor for initial diagnostics, which in your case, would include choke, carb, and timing adjustments. Not sure what your area's hourly rate is. Just have to 'call around'. Remember, cheap is not always 'good'. Generally get what you pay for. Loren SW Washington
