78 ford pickup smoking

i have a 1978 ford 3/4 ton. mostly used for work, hunting, trail riding (not abused as mud-bogging and what-nots). 351 cleveland has started burning oil BAD looks like a bug fogger when its started up, is there any "band-aid" i can run in it through the winter until i get the time and money to have the motor rebuilt in the spring? so far only advice ive got it use stp and keep adding oil to it as needed. i realize its most likely the rings gone bad but just needed a quick fix to get me through the winter. the truck isnt a primary truck and isnt taken on long drives really. mostly driven on the weekend, opinions are greatly appreciated!

There is no quick fix for a worn out motor.
Make sure your PCV system is working properly.

i realize i cant rebuild the engine with a magic wand, just wonderin if theres anyway to buy some time. its not blowing oil out the pcv and the air filters clean where it comes in, i rinsed out the hose last year about this time (diesel fuel, not water!) and cleaned the element. it only gets maybe at most 3-5,000 miles a year, its a give-in that imma rebuild it in the spring just wonderin if there was somethin i could do to make sure it didnt lock up or spin a bearing. just keep adding oil as needed and use an additive such as restore, stp, lucas n what-not?

As I already said, you cannot repair mechanical damage with any additive. Adding oil treatment is about all you can do and that is futile. You need to make sure the PCV is working properly as I said. A plugged up PCV will make it blow more oil past the rings.
