I recently had my oil pan gasket changed and since that day my oil light comes on in idle once the engine is warm, say after five miles of driving. the shop thinks its the oil pump but my mechanic buddy thinks they're trying to jip me. theres a slight quiet knocking sound. it seams like it goes to the rythm of the flickering oil light. the oil was dirty and dark and watery but i had the carberator re-boared and the shop said they thought maybe fuel got in the oil. the filter they put on looked old but they said they changed the oil. I decided to change it myself. First I used a valvoline engine flush. Next, new filter, new oil and a bottle of lucas oil stabilizer and the oil light stops. I was ecstatic but then a couple days later it starts again. Just not as frequently. what the heck! what could this be?

With a vehicle that old it could be needing main bearings, rod bearings, even oilpump.the truth is the engine is worn. And dirty oil will finish it off. A thicker grade of oil might help Unsure
