You could prime it but running the engine should have built pressure by now anyway. There may be some other issue with the pump, pick up or driveshaft.

Are you saying the eng has been rebuilt and you are trying to start for first time ? Or a fairly recent built eng that lost pressure? If first start on eng ,,,is oil pump drive in , was pickup screen installed properly ? Were cam bearings installed correctly ?If all ok ,try pre filling thr filter.

Thanks for your reply, I just bought this elcamino last week, the engine was rebuilt a little over a year ago at oregon engine rebuilders, the kid I bought it from installed the engine got it running and on its first drive the engine siezed up so he just let it sit for the last year ,dont know any other details why he didnt go back to the rebuilder? so I bought the car put some good lube down the plug holes, pulled a valve cover, the motor started right up but no oil was shooting up through the push rods so I shut it down and thats where I'm at.

Ran the eng till it siezed !!!! Thats a pretty major item to leave out. The only way your going to be able to trust that eng now is to buy a overhaul gsasket set and tear it down . You can find the cause of no pressure and inspect for damage during run . Could be any of the things i mentioned before.
