I have a 72 chevy blazer with a 383 strokerthat runs great until I drive it awhile. I have to adjust timing every time to get it to start back up. I have checked the timingchain, and all looks good. It has a msd ignition on it and im not real familiarwith them. the distributor is tight also. any help would be greatly appreciated

Take a sharpie marker and mark the relationship of the distributor shaft to the intake manifold. Then drive it. See if the marks correspond with the issue. I would bet you used a stock distributor hold down and it isn't doing its job like it should.

If its a bit flexed from age and being overtightened at one time it might not hold down as well as it should. Under running conditions it can move a little. Thats what the sharpie test is for. You mentioned an MSD unit, are you just running the CD box or are you using the MSD box, coil and distributor?

IS this a fresh build or did you do these add-ons to a used engine? If a fresh build, was the old timing set reused? How much off time is it when you have to re-adjust it?

well its was rebuilt and I dont have to turn it much at all. I bought the vehicle built this way. but if I drive the vehicle 15 miles or so and try and start it shortly after I have to adjust it but if I drive the vehicle and wait a day or so it starts and runs fine

So you haven't used a timing light on this at all to set the timing exactly or to verify how much, if any, the timing is actually off? I would recommend you do so.

A single item alone may not cause a problem . However combined with other small items it will shut you down.Base timng ,total advance , plug temp and gap , spark voltage, mixture at idle and at speed ,valve adjustment ,even thermostat temp..A couple out of wack can drive you nuts. LIFE'S SHORT GO FISH
