69 superbee w/440 mag want start after running

69 superbee w/440 mag want start after running Sign In

i have a 1969 dodge superbee with a 440 mag in it. it will start up ok but after running for a lil while and i turn it off it want start back up. it cranks but to slow and it want bust off. whats wrong? can anybody help me with this?

Old fart # 1 . I'll go first. The exhaust manifold was killer on starters for this car. Needs a heat shield between starter and exhaust. Probably needs a new gear reduction starter by now. Dual point?

that makes since. i heard there was a smaller starter that puts out more torq with the same bolt pattern on a later model mopar is this correct and if so wat mopar?

Suggestion #2 if the starter checks out ok. When it's cranking slow pull the coil wire out of the dist cap, ground it and crank the engine, if it cranks at normal speed you have a timing problem.....

I can remember sitting in my brother’s brand new 69 Chevelle big block SS barely able to see over the dash; while he blew the doors off of a Mopar; I think it was a roadrunner? LOL

As for the smaller body starter motor most any mid 90’s V8 truck application that uses the Nippondenso starter will likely have the bolt pattern you’re looking for. Also up grade the battery cables from a #6 to #4 gage cable.

I'm curious about something. Is this motor stock? Have the heads been shaved or the pistons changed?

Damn.......... Outted in public...........sighhhhhhhhhhhh...........

Most of it's hazy but I do remember in July sometime watching the 1st man land on them moon.......Smile
