Hey everyone, I need some help, I admit I am a rookie. I have a 1975 Fold Falcon with a 170 engine. Today I decided to do my own tune up. Here is what I did.
1. Changed the distributor cap
2. replaced the spark plugs
3. replaced the wires
4. CHANED THE IGNOTION COIL
Now my car wont even start or click. I put a volt tester on the coil and I am getting 12 volts on the positive side and proper ground on the negitve. I dont know what to look for, I'm not sure if I hooked up the wires wrong.. Any ideas? I'm lost, I've traced my steps back and even reinstalled the old ignition coil and that didnt help.. Please help, I need ideas..

After doing more research, I think I have the cables not setup correctly.. I do not know the firing order for the 1965 Ford Falcon 170 6 cyl. Right now, I have the cylender clostest to the raditor as 1 and 6 being at the end of the engine closest to the inside of the car. Does that make sence. I told you guys I'm a rookie

You said >>"Now my car wont even start or click."

If it won't even click starter (is that what you mean?) then let's begin there!
*************
Please decide what year this is?? 1975 and 1965 are listed in your post? 1975 would be an export car?? Either: firing order is 1-5-3-6-2-4 ---- #1 cylinder is front as you thought and #1 on cap should be about the furthest from the engine on the dist cap and cap should be marked with a #1. Dist rototes CLOCKWISE so start at #1 and count that way.
*************
Quoted you - Response in CAPS

1. Changed the distributor cap * CAP AND ROTOR SHOULD GO TOGETHER
2. replaced the spark plugs FINE
3. replaced the wires FINE
4. CHANED THE IGNOTION COIL (WHY????)

WHAT ABOUT POINTS, CONDENSER, TIMING, SET IDLE SPEED AND CHOKE?? POINTS SETTING IS: Gap= .25 - Dwell = 35-38 degrees TIMING IS: 6 degrees BTTDC (before top dead center) with vacuum line to distributor off and plugged set at 600 RPM. T

Re: 65 Falcon wont start Sign In

This must be simple battery - solonoid - on to starter cable and cable from battery to engine block.

You can find where the current quits. Solonoid should have two smaller wires - one marked "S" when empowered (jumped with 12V) would crank the engine and the "R" small wire feeds current to a resistor and on to coil for starting then when you let go of the key that one should be off and "resistor" current only on to coil.

If this just happened - problably/possibly with the coil swap then a wire isn't making a connection or was left off. If it ran at all before it should again or at least sputter and try to start but it should at least "crank" the engine,

Re: 65 Falcon wont start Sign In

so here is a stupid question. With firing order 1,5,3,6,2,4 do I put distributor car connection 1 to cylender 2, cap connection 2 to cylender 5, cap connection three to cylender 3 and so on?

ClicClick on the attachment link below. It shows distributor location to the cylinders.

Being way2old is why I need help from younger minds
