Have a 97 dodge ram van 3500 with 5.2 MPFI engine. Driving home last night and lost acceleration, had to keep pedal to floor to get home. Engine will start and idle smoothly but as soon as you depress throttle it bogs down and won't rev up. No engine codes. checked fuel pressure 47 lbs, checked TPS voltage--its ok, replaced fuel pump since pressure regulater is in fuel pump--no improvement. Fumes indicate unburned fuel like it's flooding. What else controls the throttle response???? Replaced PCM two years ago. Has new crank sensoe and cam sensor.

Are you sure about that info? They didn't put that engine in that truck in that year. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

according to manuals and such you had a 5.2 (318) or the 5.9(360) available.

I found it. It was available in the van only, not the pick up. Is this a "drive by wire" system? You never had any check engine light? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

in the past I've had check engine lights show up. hooked scanner to it shows no codes will check again in morning. Haven"t checked MAP sensor yet, don't know if that will affect it or not? Could a bad cat cause tis?h

If the check engine light came on, then there should be a code stored if the system is working properly.

A restriction in the exhaust could cause that. Is the engine misfiring at idle? Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Corredt you are. Checked o2 output with as mush throttle as it would take and had near a volt of output. Cut exhaust pipe behind cat and cleaned out debris. Welded pipe back in place--eureka it solved the problem.
