2014 Ram 1500 Engine Misfires Sign In

I've had this 2014 Ram 1500 Laramie for about a year now. It's at about 130k miles. During that time, I've had cylinder 8 misfire and "insufficient ionization" codes come up from time to time. (This is the 4th time, I think)
Here's what's happening:
Occasionally (maybe every other time I drive the truck), the engine will have a rough idle and will kind of hiccup or stutter when driving. It's also getting terrible gas mileage, even for a v8 hemi.

Here's what I know:
It's not ignition coils or spark plugs, as I've replaced all of them recently. I don't believe it's a lifter issue, as this model is notorious for, because there is no visible wear/damage on any of the cam lobes, according to the mechanic that saw it last. Finally, the fact that sometimes it happens and sometimes it doesn't leads me to believe it's an electrical issue rather than a mechanical one. But I'm honestly not well versed in this field, so that's just what I could surmise with my limited knowledge.

Here's what I suspect:
-The last mechanic said there was some loose connection on the wiring harness on the coil on cylinder 8. They said they fixed it, but I'm not sure if it actually got fixed or if that was even the problem to begin with.
-Maybe it could be a fuel injector issue? I don't know how to troubleshoot this.
-I'm not sure it's an exhaust manifold gasket issue, since I don't hear the typical "tick." However, maybe that's it? Again, I don't know how to troubleshoot that. I also don't smell anything strange while driving.
-I could see how it could be a PCM malfunction, but I don't know how to tell if that's the case.
-Maybe fuel pump? But I don't hear any sounds that would indicate that.

That's really all I could think of, and I don't know how to go about testing which one is the problem. Any help or suggestion is welcome.

First question, what brand of plugs did you put in? Bosch maybe?
Did you have the problem before the plugs and coils were replaced?

Outside of just throwing parts at it, it's going to take some equipment you don't have to troubleshoot the problem to determine if it fuel or spark. You can easily eliminate a valve issue with a compression test or possibly a running compression test.

Thanks for the response. To answer your question, I got Denso iridium spark plugs. The problem did exist before replacing all of the plugs and coils.

Ok, I think we can confidently eliminate ignition then now.

The next most logical suspect would be the fuel injector. There are different ways to approach this. You could start with professional injector cleaning. I don't mean just adding something to the fuel but a pressure system that the fuel is cut off and the engine will run on the injector cleaner.

If that doesn't work, then you are going to have to make a choice of simply trying a new injector or find a top notch shop that can use a lab scope in conjunction with a high end scanner to monitor fuel mixtures.

We normally don't recommend throwing parts at a problem as opposed to actual diagnostics but in some cases the parts changing is the less costly route.
