Check engine light P0446 code. Did some trouble shooting and found wires cut at wiring harness near canister vent solenoid. I sliced the wires and plugged in wiring harness to solinoid. If it was a wiring issue that is now fixed, will the check engine light reset itself or does the error code need to be reset?

that is a lot of 'IF's"
if the wires were for Vent solenoid IF the solenoid is good, IF the circuit is good, IF that was the issue,
If corrected the system will turn off the CEL after several completed tests...
thinking positive - Drive it for a few days and advise.

FYI: Erasing a code erases much data from PCM, and will require all 'monitors' to reset to complete.

The smart thing to do would be have the codes cleared and then you will know if you fixed the problem or not.

It begs the question "What cut the wires?" Real sloppy work, or accidental? Rodent eat thru them? If so where else did they leave their biz card?

My best guess in how the wire got cut from the look and where it was cut is that it got wore from driving through brush. We are building a new place and have driven the car through the freshly cleared fields. Wires were worn right at the end of the plastic sleeve and before going into the wiring harness.

I did have the code erased. Check engine light has not come back on yet, will see in a few days. Strange thing did happen right after the code was erased, car stalled when accelerating as making a right on red. Pulled over, restarted the car, revved the engine and it stalled again. Restartedcthe car let it idled for a few seconds, revved the engine, no issues. Has driven fine since?

OK - Pete: Correct me if wrong. You know what caused wires to be cut and hopefully properly spliced those back color for color intact again and haven't had problems since - right? No codes now because you reset it but if there was one still it should come right back and you aren't done finding more issues.

It's entirely possible for it to stall or be a bit off for a while after you reset it. It had learned how to cope if you will and may only be in a "relearning" mode a lot of which is holding idle properly for stops, turns and so forth as engine isn't as clean and new as new ever again some will be compensated or if to the limit needed attention - many just dirty throttle bodies and IAC which hold the idle. If only that it's relearning it will and you should be back to before anything happened IMO.
Other: Vehicle makers go to great thought and design to place items out of harm's way -wires, fuel and brake lines and more. If the placement was wrong enough there would be more problems. If you as said put it to extremes like thru more brush or whatever guess you cant blame a design flaw - stuff happens.
You could get code read again and see if any are pending as some will wait before making the light stay on otherwise if it's back to normal now you found and fixed it.
If that's all what you meant it's fixed IMO.

Good for you,

T

Sure sounds like you are all fixed up now and again good for you. Success.
I'll let another decide to close out this thread (locked) for archives for a bit which will keep spammers away to expect that soon.
I consider this solved,
