I have a 2008 Honda accord with a 4 cylinder motor. It has 30 pounds of compression in 3rd cylinder the rest are 180. It starts fine but vtc rattles at start up. I'm thinking broken valve but I've never worked no a Honda before. Is there anything I should consider before removing the head.

Broken valve? If it dropped a valve it would have destroyed the piston and engine by now. You would need to do a leakdown test on that cylinder to determine if it's a valve problem. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Sounds like a good idea I'll do that next but I was wandering if there was a component on the engine that would cause a loss of in just one cylinder. I would think the VTC gear would affect all four cylinders. But this is the first Honda I've worked on. I looked at the Piston with a camera it looked good.

There is no magic 8 ball or shortcut for this. Testing is what tells you where the problem is. Once you determine if it's actually a valve problem, then we look in that area. You bring that cylinder up to TDC on compression stroke and then pressurized the cylinder with air and listen for where it leaks out.

Cylinder 3 on top dead center has 30 percent loss at 100 psi. Other Cylinders were at 10 percent loss.the air loss is coming out the intake and exhaust out the other Cylinders. No air from oil tub or coolant reservoir.
