2006 PT Crusier - engine stopped on eway tonight

Daughter has 2006 PT Crusier, 40k miles. Just getting on expressway-maybe going 55mph-tech revs to 4000-then engine shuts down-turns over, but won't start-towed to garage for trouble-shooting/repair in the morning. I think it might be the timing belt/chain. Anyone have thoughts??????????

Without some kind of info, any thing would be a wild guess. 40k would be pretty early for a timing belt.
