2006 Kia Sedona 3.8L v6 check engine light questions Sign In

Just took my Kia Sedona to the dealer because the check engine light came on. Their diagnostics found a hole in the air intake hose. They also recommended a cleaning (of the fuel injectors, I suppose) to remove carbon because the fuel mixture was off (lean?) because of the hole. After replacing the hose, they said the light could still come back on without the cleaning. I had the hose replaced and the oil changed, but the light is still on. My questions are:
Will this problem correct itself after some time?
If not, is there a fuel additive that can correct this?
Did they just not turn the light off after changing the hose?
Any other insights will be appreciated!

Robert

If the light was on when you drove away, then they likely never cleared the codes. If you have an Autozone or Advanced auto in your area, they will clear them for free. If the light comes back on after that, go back and have them read the code and post them here.

I really appreciate the answer. I did not know I could have it dealt with for free.

But is the carbon a problem and do I need to clean it or have it cleaned?

Thank you so much.

I don't know what you have for mileage but induction cleaning is a needed maintenance every 50K or so but to go as far as to say the check engine light will come back on is unlikely and it wouldn't be immediate.

You can get the code for free but it still has to be diagnosed. The people at the parts stores aren't techs so they would just be giving it their "best guess" on your nickel...

Your orignal problem could've set a P0171,P0174, lean bank 1 & 2. A guess may have got you 4 O2 sensors costing hundred of dollars but you had a tech who was familiar with the system check it out and found a hole in the air intake....

If you want to diag it yourself & have the tools to do it & can follow directions, then there is a lot of experienced techs here who will help you out or you may just want a little more info on the problem, they can help with that to....but don't go down the parts tossing road.....It may sound like a good deal but can wind up being very expensive & frustrating.
