I'm purchasing a used 2006 Buick Rendezvous from a family friend. He was driving it one day and it just died as he was driving it I guess. I'm not to shore about the details my brother was going to buy the vehicle but I'm going to instead. I guess he was driving and it just died as he was going down the road. All I know is that the radio works and I think the windows are power not shore but I know they go up and down. Because they where down for a little while yesterday and now there up again. So I guess the windows might be power since its a newer model. I guess there's not even a code on the dash. But I have not looked personally I don't even know where to look if I did look. Please help. This is my first vehicle. By the way he said he thinks the engine went out. But I don't know how to check that ether. I'm new to all of this. I Just checked it real quick but I don't know what I'm doing. There are no codes on the dash. There is only a check engine soon. And the battery light. The sound it makes is a fast clicking sound. And under the hood the oil is kind of a brownish color. Any tips or advice please.

Codes don't appear on the dash. You need to plug in a code reader to extract the codes which is something that should be done. I can't tell you what the problem is but I can tell you how to find the problem. All "crank, no start" conditions are approached in the same way. Every engine requires certain functions to be able to run. Some of these functions rely on specific components to work and some components are part of more than one function so it is important to see the whole picture to be able to conclude anything about what may have failed. Also, these functions can ONLY be tested during the failure. Any other time and they will simply test good because the problem isn't present at the moment. If you approach this in any other way, you are merely guessing and that only serves to replace unnecessary parts and wastes money. Every engine requires spark, fuel and compression to run. That's what we have to look for. These are the basics that need to be tested and will give us the info required to isolate a cause. 1) Test for spark at the plug end of the wire using a spark tester. If none found, check for power supply on the + terminal of the coil with the key on. 2) Test for injector pulse using a small bulb called a noid light. If none found, check for power supply at one side of the injector with the key on. 3) Use a fuel pressure gauge to test for correct fuel pressure, also noticing if the pressure holds when key is shut off. 4) If all of these things check good, then you would need to do a complete compression test. Once you have determined which of these functions has dropped out, you will know which system is having the problem. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

My uncle has a few different types of testers. I'm not shore on how to use them myself so if there are any tips you could provide or a youtube video you can point me to. To help me figure out how to use the testers that would be great I think I will also have my uncle take a look at the vehicle for me since I live in a trailer court that he also lives in. Okay so here is another question? (1) If I get the tester to show (*Codes*) where and how do I find the results for the codes. (2) If the problem is listed with the codes. Where is the best place to buy parts. Used online or used at a local salvage yard. Or new local or new online I want to save some money when finding out the problems. (3) The front bumper is a little lo from hitting a parked car. The color of the Buick is kind of a redish color. If I had to change the front bumper would a black one look okay. I think black and the redish color would work but not to shore.

You're getting way ahead of yourself. The code reader plugs into the diagnostic connector under the drivers dash. It will give you code numbers that start with a P and four numbers. They don't tell you what is wrong, merely what area to look. Post the code numbers here. Forget number 2. You're not there yet. A black bumper will look pretty stupid on a red car. You can rent most of the needed test equipment at most auto parts stores. Just don't let them diagnose anything. They aren't as knowledgeable as they think they are.

Okay here is what I know so far. I can get this done at a local auto store. "Electric & Module Testing". But that is at the store and I can't get the Buick to start so I can't get it there. And they also do this at a local store also. "Loaner Tool Program". So even if I can't use my uncles tester tomorrow. So far I know the store will still be open after my roommate gets home from work tomorrow. so if I have to I will just try and rent the tester if I can. and then find out the codes that way or I will see if my aunt can do it for me tomorrow while my uncle is at work. So I know he has the tester that gets plugged in by the driver side door under the dash. Because my cousin had to keep using it for his van until the part got fixed. So I should have the codes by tomorrow. Once I get it I will post them on here. This is the kind of red color of the Buick I have but not the actual picture this is from a yahoo image search. So I figured if I could not get a exact match for the color the black one would be okay for now. But I don't even know if the bumper even needs to be changed it might just be that its coming off a bit and might need to be reattached. Like I said I'm not to shore. (1) I should have the codes by tomorrow. (2) I found a local store that loans out parts. Plus my cousin danny also owns a small auto repair shop so I might have a bit of help with it for getting the tools.

I had to delete your picture because it was way too large and messing up the thread. The code reading may or may not help. Not every problem will set a code. PS, that broken piece on the bumper is not the bumper itself. That peice is sold separately.

Okay this is what I know so far. My uncle dose have the tester but my aunt was still a sleep when I went over to ask her if I could have her plug it in so I could see if there was any codes. I asked my cousin Lonnie the one that was using the tester for his van if he knew where it was. And he said he was pretty sure it was in his moms car. I asked him if she could check the Buick for error codes later on today and he said he did not see why she wouldn't. So ether my aunt will check it for me or my uncle will when he gets home from work around 4:00 P.M. My cousin also told me he thinks it might be the starter since the engine its self is not doing anything. He said its not making any kind of connection to the engine. All you hear is the sound it makes when it try's connecting to the starter. As if the starter is not working. So hope fully there are some codes on it.

Way too much information. OK, I misunderstood the symptoms. If it's not cranking, the first thing that has to be tested is the battery. After that you are going to need a mechanic to look into it further.

My aunt told me since the Buick wont start she can't use the tester since the vehicle wont start. All I know is the engine its self dose not make any sounds. Here's what I under stand once you put the key in the key hole you turn it and then the engine starts and the vehicle moves. And here's what happens. My older brother puts the key in the key hole and turns it. You hear kind of a fast clicking sound but no engine noises or sounds. The engine dose nothing. But the radio works and the window go up and down and the security light on the dash flashes red. I just noticed it last night when getting into the van that was parked next to it. I was also told by a family friend that the battery end that attaches to the battery was so loose he could almost tighten it with his hand. So all I know is I will have to have my uncle take a look at it. My aunt told me today when she came over to my house its worth buying it for my first vehicle plus its cheap and since its a family fried that owns it I can get it on payments. So I have decided to purchase it as sis and have my uncle take a look at it before I talk to the guy about it. So far I know nothing but it died while driving it down the road. and the owner just paid it of not to long ago that's all I know. Once my uncle looks at it I will be back and tell what I found out. Thank you for the help so far.

You have insufficient battery voltage for whatever reason. Could be the connection problem, bad battery or charging system problem. Have the battery charged and tested as I already stated.

Roommate still is not home yet. I will need to get it tested tomorrow. Once I have that done I will let you know the end results of the battery test.
