2005 kia rio help

I drive a 2005 kia rio (automatic transmission). A few times over the last few months, I ve had problems with acceleration not being responsive when i press the gas pedal while I m driving. Nothing will happen the first few times i hit the pedal, then all of a sudden it works again. The last time this happened, I was able to pull into a parking lot, and as soon as I did, my power steering went. That was a first. I stopped the car, turned off the ignition, turned it back on and it was fine again. I drove it today and everything was fine. Does anyone have an idea what this might be. I m definitly going to see my mechanic as soon as I can get in, but what should I be prepared for? it s a 10 year old car, but it s not my primary car, only has 93000kms. I know I need a new battery but would a low charge have anything to do with it? In the past year, I have to be careful about turning my interior lights off when i get out, as well as my headlights because sometimes they don t turn off automatically like they should. No idea if it s related but the more info the better. Thanks

If you know your battery and charging system are not up to par then everything else tested or done barely matters. Get that in order so you know what you are working with and where to look if problem continue with known good electrical.
FYI - Batteries got a bit expensive. Don't cheap out get a good one and mark it's age clearly to you. They don't last forever by nature and dependability drops off quite predictably after about 4 years.
Note: Age of battery is when it was made not when it was sold. They are clearly marked or encrypted with that date and month,
