2005 chevy aveo engine dies when driving Sign In

I have a 2005 chevy aveo with 170,000 miles on it. It only happens a couple times a week, but the engine just dies when driving. All the lights and everything stays on the engine just shuts off. It always starts right back up though. Any ideas?

Start by getting your codes read and post the exact code numbers for us. Most parts stores will do that for free.

Found out from the guy I bought the car from that he once had the same problem. It only happened to him in the winter with the winter gas. He said he switch over to a higher octane gas for the winter months and that solved the problem.

That car was designed with an engine that was made to run properly on 87 octane gasoline. This usage of premium may be a band-aid as a temporary fix but eventually it will get worse. It would be better and cheaper in the long run to properly troubleshoot and repair the issue at hand before it gets worse.

Good point. What should I do next? I know you said to get the codes read, but there is no check engine lights and anything on or coming on when it happens. Will there still be codes?
