2005 Dodge Neon SX 2.0 Engine smell.

I have a 2005 Dodge Neon SX 2.0, My issue is that I was driving and then parked the car and I could smell a burning smell. I thought nothing of it and just passed it off as another vehicle driving by. I started driving again and then all of sudden the battery light came on and the smell came back. When I got home I turned the car off and then back on and the light went out but the smell was there again. There is a squeaking noise coming from the engine and I know I need a belt replacement. However people are saying its my alternator. I need help I don't know a thing about cars.

You just said you don't know a thing about cars so it's fair to say it's going to a place to get fixed and expect a belt, possible battery and an alternator.
