Vehicle started yesterday and died. It felt like it would if it ran out of gas but it had a full tank. We took the fuel pump out and put it back in. Turned key on we heard fuel pump prime and it started. 1 minute later backing it out of the driveway it seemed as though it ran out of gas again but has gas. Any ideas what it could be would be helpful.

(on edit just fixed one typo for you)

You need to know the fuel pressure is up to spec and can hold. IF just taking it out and put back in made it work suggest either plug to it is lousy or pump going erratic and not enough pressure whether you hear it or not,

OK - If quiet enough where you are working and can't hear pump prime up at all and whack on the tank made it work is suggestive of a bad pump.

Hey - wires can do that too. Up to you on a new pump or diagnose more. Best will be GM's own OE complete pump and you pay for them,

OK - so it wouldn't prime up without banging on it. Your call but that is damning for a bad fuel pump,
