I have a 2004 liberty sport , 3.7L engine that is sloly losing oil. It does not lose enough at any time to see any visible leakage on the ground. I put in about 1qt a month. I was told it is probably a REAR ENGINE SEAL problem. If it is , how involved is it to fix and what would a repair shop charge to do it??

You're kinda getting ahead of yourself with the worst case scenario.

1st step would be to find out what (if anything) is leaking and go from there

I had some work done on the jeep by a friend who used to work in a repair shop. Yhe oil IS leaking from under the vehicle. The only question is from exactly where because it is not clear since there is not any dripping but there is oil coating the transmission area.

That is why someone needs to get in there and confirm the leak.

It could very well be a rear main seal, they do go out OR it could be a valve cover gasket, oil sending unit, etc. All leaks go down & back, just because you can see it on the bottom of the engine doesn't mean it's coming from the bottom of the engine.

A good example would be a water pump on a chevy small block. They leak out the bleeder hole but instead of the coolant going straight down to the ground it travels down the pump body onto the lower rad hose and then runs off the lower hose onto the ground. I couldn't tell you how many I've seen come in with brand new lower hoses on them & the complaint that there is a coolant leak that can't be found.....
