I have a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix that keeps coming close to over heating. I have already replaced the radiator after which less than a year later it started again. I had the water pump elbows replaced at which time the mechanice told me there was an accumilation of gunk at the water pump. It had no problem until about 6 months or so later. It comes close to over heating when in stand still traffic but not while on highway. Not sure what if maybe the fans aren't turning on or problem with the water pump?

You say it comes close but doesn't overheat in slow traffic. That would actually be normal operation for that car. The fans aren't programmed to come on until around 225 degrees.
