Hey there, I do alot of work on my friends/co workers vehicles and one of them has a fairly new car, well new to her: 2004 Jeep Liberty 4x4 3.7L 142000 Miles It has recently started overheating and mostly when shes accellerating on the highway, lets say going from 55 to 70 at a decent but no quick pace, Ive been trying to find the issue but I dont want to take it apart until i have a second opinion on what it could be, it just started making some strange noises when you turn the heat on (Trying to cool it off a bit). I'm thinking it might be the Thermostat, since I had similar problems with my old Nissan. But I'd like to hear some second opinions if anyone has any, some extra info as follows: -All Fuses are fine. -Radiator fan turns on at temp -Also kicks on under AC use as it should. -The coolant is a little Dark -Lines look to be in good shape -Does make a slight gurlging sound after turning off at temp, as fluid goes into resovoir. -Is running the P0138 Code for O2 Sensor Voltage but i do not believe that will have something to do with it -No warning lights displayed -Let idle and revved to 2000 Rpms and held for short bursts for about 10 mins after reaching running temp. Slighty rose above halfway on Temp Gauge. Any help would be greatly appreciated she needs her vehicle for work and toting her kids around. Thank you all. The fan is not a factor at those speeds. The likely things would be being low on coolant for whatever reason or a radiator that is deteriorated internally. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Well coolant is ok, so then probably needs a new radiator. May as well do a thermostat and hoses and stuff while im in there then, those parts aren't expensive Thank you Hammer Time p.s. most likely isnt a water pump then? She thought it might be that. And there is a "dragging" Sound when she turns on the heat, im not quite sure what that means but thats what she said lol. OK - Lousy looking coolant with those symptoms the radiator may be junk as HT just said. Gurgling reservoir is not a good sign. Get on this soon before real damage happens if not already, T

I woul;d suspect the gurgling sound to be ai pockets in the system which would tsake us back to the low coolant suggestion. What i would suggest to do first is pressure test the cooling system to determine if it is losing coolant anywhere.

This constant overheating problem could also be the result of the headgasket problem. Especially if the coolant system has been neglected. 3.7L are known for head gasket issues and valve seat dropping out when they are run too hot. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
