2004 Hyundai Sonata
V4
135000miles
Don't know engine size other than V4
Automatic Trasmission

Ok, I can't figure this out because it seems like it could be one of several types of engine/transmission issues. I will try to describe/list all the issues I am having as best I can. I think/hope this is a fuel delivery system, and not transmission.

Mainly, my car is having difficulty switching from 3rd gear to 4th gear. It just doesn't seem to get there smoothly. At times, particularly going up a hill in slow traffic, it can really jolt. The kind of jolt where you wait to see if your car is about to shut off. I get the feeling that going into fourth gear, particularly going up hills with little momentum, that the engine is not getting enough drive. So perhaps a fuel issue.

-I can sometimes hear a 'snapping' sound from underneath the car when switching from 2nd to 3rd gear
-Sometimes the car will give a little sputter when cruising at a constant speed on the highway
-The biggest problem is switching from 3rd to 4th gear right between 35 and 40 miles an hour. If I have room ahead of me on the road, I will basically hit the gas and power thru this speed. When I do this, no problems. If I idle in this speed range, my car may give some 'clunks'.
-The issue is more pronounced going up hills
-The issue seems to be worse in the summer rather than winter (hot vs cold weather)
-There does not seem to be any problems when my car down-shifts gears
-Again.. it always feels like my car isn't getting enough drive when this happens.

Finally - My check engine light came on recently and I had it checked. It listed 'Fuel Temperature Gauge' and 'Crank-Shaft/Cam-Shaft'. Although the Crank-Shaft might be from a previous repair i had. There was no date stamp on the check-engine-light readout. But the fuel temperature gauge was first on this list.

Could a fuel temperature gauge be causing this. Could this be a fuel delivery issue? If my car isn't getting the proper fuel at the proper time, then I could see how changing gears could be an issue... PLEASE HELP. HAS ANYONE EXPERIENCED THIS BEFORE!

I'd get a better code reading with more details and exact #s. What was the prior work?
