my 2003 nissan x-trail has 170,000km on clock. with a 2.5ltr petrol engine. the car will not start all of the time. sometimes it will take 2 or 3 days to start, other times i hav driven it around for a few hr during the day and has started perfectly a number of times, then suddenly wont start. once the engine is going, it seems to run fine without stalling or anything. however i think it is using a bit more fuel than it should. and on the times when it doesn't start, it sounds like it wants to. it will turn over and you can hear it fire every couple of seconds, but just wont start. and also leaves a really strong smell of fuel like it has flooded itself. the problem only evolved about 4 weeks ago and happened all of the sudden.
since then i have changed the fuel filter, fuel pump, spark plugs, coolant temp sensor and have also ran an injector cleaner through the fuel. but still have the problem. the battery is near new and turns the engine over quite well. does anyone know what may be causing the car not to start, or something else that i should check or change

sounds like it's flooded.. next time it acts up pull a plug see if it's wet. Also get a hold of a fuel pressure tester and hook it up see what the cranking fuel pressure is and running fuel pressure is. Shut engine off and monitor how long it takes for fuel pressure to drop and approx rate it's dropping. Check airbox for any restrictions and see if filter is plugged you should be able to see light through the filter when held to a light source.

Thanx, the plugs are saturated and can see the puddle of fuel on top of cylinder. Filter doesnt seem dirty but will replace anyway.
