2003 Stratus surging Sign In

I am working on a 2003 dodge stratus with a 2.4 liter engine. When I got the car it had a misfire and the check engine light was on, I retrieved the trouble code which was a misfire on cyl. #2. I replaced the coil disconnected the bat. to clear the code took the car for a ten mile test drive and it ran great. After the customer picked the car up they drove it for maybe thirty minutes and it started surging. The check engine light was not on but I checked it anyway but no codes were detected. I replaced the battery and took the car out again, it ran fine for about ten minutes then started surging again. I checked the oil for coolent but was ok. I have heard these engines have head gasket probs. but I can't find any evidence of this.

With mass air flow known good if checked I'd compare plugs of that cylinder with one without a problem.

*Rule out vacuum leaks
*Perhaps just change out plugs for OE ones only
*Check manifold actual vacuum is correct
* Take a compression check of that cyl and one without problems

Gaskets: They can leak in a variety of ways and OE ones on engines with any dissimilar metals do gobble them more that most others and this is no exception. Replacement gaskets (intake and head) can be much better than originals IMO,
