Hi i'm new here and could do with some help. I have 2003 Ford Finesse Fiesta 1.25L Petrol. I'm having an issue where it will start but not holding the revs when first fired up on a morning when its cold it will continue to cut out until the engines warmed up,if i don't sit there for 5 minutes reeving the car to warm up once i break and the car revs go low the car cuts out & steering becomes heavy and the battery light comes on. I've had my spark plugs changed and topped my oil up. However when the weather is warm my car starts fine and runs fine it's just when the temperature drops cold. I'm planning on changing my oil filter and having new oil as well as fuel filter and air filter. Can anybody help? Thanks..Btw i'm female so i'm not very good with technical questions. :)

Hello, Just have two questions, Does the engine stall out when put into drive or reverse? If so, when you put it back to park or neutral does it start right back up again? Gary

Welcome. Hey - being female doesn't inhibit your technical ability - anyone can have aptitude for it or not. It should have codes to be read and post code #s rather than a diagnosis by another is best. Know that a cold engine is about anything under 120ish degrees F. or so of the engine itself want more fuel delivered for the time till warmed up which would be shorter when weather is warmer. There are assorted reason why it is too lean most likely when cold. The car is sensing temp of itself, incoming air temp and deciding for itself how much to deliver exactly and isn't. You can at least look for anything that might be disconnected like wiring connections or vacuum hoses left off plus item of the air intake set up. From there the codes stored should help a lot if not something real obvious. BTW - This exact car isn't sold TMK to this US based site so will be a bit limited for details on exactly what item is where if or when a part or repair is required, T

Thank you for your help- My dads friend said he will attach it to his computer gadget thing and check for error codes. I'm a little concerned that my dad had put in 10w40 oil not 5w30 - But he insisted it was fine.

A bit mixed up here in order and section it is in I didn't notice or move it. The codes if no light is illuminated will probably take a better code reader than just anyone may have. A "computer gadget" probably isn't enough. You can test that the light works by just turning key to run without starting the car it should light up as a bulb check and go out when running. If the bulb doesn't work it will confuse the situation and code readings needed, T

I'm moving this out of the trans section now. It's obviously not a trans problem. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
