2003 2.7 Tiburon does not start in cold weather, gas in tank has been used up and then refilled three times using gas line antifreezes with premium gas. Problem is still there, when parked in my garage with a small heater on the car will start up first time. When left for a long period of time in cold weather it will not start, sometimes it will fire up after prolonged attempts with the gas pedal held down. The car has 271,000 kilometres and no engine lights are on when running.

When was the last time it got a tune-up?

I change the oil/filters every 5000 kms but have not changed the plugs/wires for a couple of years. It starts first time when weather is warm but problem just started recently and only when its really cold.

starting in only warm temps and not cold can indicate worn out plugs/wires or weak coils. Anything that can lower the needed kv of electricity to fire the plug hot enough to ignite cold fuel. It would be worth your while to pull a plug or two and see what the gap is at. If this is cranking at a normal speed you can rule out battery issues.

In addition to what Nich said, it can also mean insufficient fuel supply for that temp. Make sure the fuel pressure is correct at that temp, the engine has no vacuum or intake leaks and the temps sensors are reading accurately.

Thanks, I don't have the apparatus to measure the fuel pressure and start with changing the plugs and wires to see if it helps.

I changed the spark plugs and wires, plugs were fouled up and needed to be changed. The problem is still there, I kept trying to start the car and after numerous attempts it did start after I pushed the gas pedal all the way to the floor. Tried to start it again the following morning and it would not start.

Were the plugs oil-fouled? Still need to find a way to get a fuel pressure reading on this. If this was in front of me I'd be checking fuel pressure and kv output of the coils.

The plugs showed no signs of being oil fouled, three in the back were not as bad but still fouled. The three in the front were enough that the centre electrode was gone. I do not have the apparatus to check the fuel pressure or the kv output of the coil as suggested.

Changed the ECT sensor, Crank sensor problem is still there. Took the car the Hyundai dealership and they say the ignition is not sensing the key so need to change the antenna coil if that fails then replace the BCM. Both were quoted as being costly, could someone provide a step by step guide to replace the antenna coil please.
