My car is 2002 civic EX with mileage about 98,500. It had timing belt replacement 3 month ago.

While driving yesterday, my battery light and oil pressure light came on and the speed went down to zero. After restarted several times, those light were off but the check engine light was on. But I could drive it home. Today when I start my car, the check engine light is still on. I'm really worried and don't know if it is safe to drive it now.

This situation happened once before. I had it checked in two auto stores. One store got a code about the sensor. They pulled out and plugged in some 'rod' several times and the light went off. But it came on after driving a couple of hours. The mechanic said it may be caused by loose timing belt or bad sensor.
Then I sent my car to firestone to check again, but the engine light went off on my way to the store. They checked and said there was nothing wrong with it.
Finally after searching online, I thought this might due to the loose gas tank cap. After tightening the cap, the check engine light went off, and I've driven it for a month without any problems.

Yesterday I tried to tighten the cap too, but the light is still on.

Sorry for the long description. I'd like to know what's going on with my car, and wonder if I need to have a standard engine tune-up.

Thanks in advance.

There is no such thing as a "loose" timing belt. If it jumps time even a little the engine stops and gets ruined.
You need to have the codes read and post the exact number here.

Just to add. Even if the light goes off while your driving to the repair center or to have the codes read, the engine controller will still store codes in history. Make sure they read current, history, and pending codes when they scan.

And if they don't know what you're talking about, drive away and find a competent shop. They charge more and yet will save you money over letting some Cletus play with a system he doesn't have any idea about.

That's my motor home but I don't do road calls. I don't want to get it dirty. I used to take it to Nascar races to park in the infield but i couldn't climb the track to get back out.

Oh I see. You sold it to HT. That explains the for sale sign.

Broke my heart to part with it. Still don't understand the attitude those guys at Barrett-Jackson gave me. But not everyone can appreciate fine art.

Hey, I had to sell 3 cars and 2 friends with benefits to come up with the $100 for that beauty.
