2002 Ford Mustang GT 117000 MILES I took my mustang to an automechanic after it broke down on me on the street. The mechanic told me that one of the cylinders was not firing and that I would need a new engine. That seemed a bit drastic to me. Could that be correct and is a new Engine the only solution? Is there anything I should ask them before getting a second opinion? Thanks

That's not much info to go on to need a whole engine. What tests were done with what results? If nothing but what you posted you should seek better help to determine what to do - fix more likely if any care has been given to this car and engine over the years but never say never either, T

That just totally depends on what the reason for the misfire is. If that cylinder has lost compression for some reason, then there is a very good chance the motor is pretty much trash. If it's a simple ignition or injector problem, that would be easily repaired. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
