2001 nissan altima oil isssues

2001 nissan altima oil isssues

Hello all,
I recently had an oil change on my 01 Nissan Altima.
Before the oil change I never had any problems with the car but after the oil change an issue started.
When the car is sitting still idling or revving it up, everything is fine but when you drive the car the oil light comes on and it make an awful grinding noise.
When it is sitting I can remove the oil filler cap and see that it's getting oil up top but when driving it , it sounds like it's not getting oil and it makes a grinding noise.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

User a mechanical oil pressure gauge to determine what the actual pressure is.

Did you check to make sure there is enough oil in it?
If their is enough oil on the dipstick, i'd change the oil filter. Hopefully it isn't too late.

Yes....there is plenty of oil in it . Actually it is more than should be but no smoking or any other signs of that being an issue.

Did you or a business change your oil. I'd dump the oil out and put a new filter on with some new oil( 4 quarts 5w-30). They coulda put the wrong viscosity or type in, or there is something going on with the filter. Just seems strange it was fine till the oil was serviced. You keep driving it around in that state and you'll be putting a motor in it. The rattling noise is probably the timing chain slapping around because there isn't enough pressure for the hydraulic tensioner.

from looking at the stick I would guess a quart or quart 1/2 more than should be. It was a business that did it, the car is sitting now and was only driven from the business to home...5 miles or a little less.

I'd give them a call and explain what is going on. If there is engine damage from improper service procedures or faulty filter that was installed, you don't want to be left holding the bag.

Follow DS's instructions, and do not for any reason fire that engine until you have gotten enough oil drained out to be at the proper level unless you want this motor in the scrap heap.

Quick read sorry: If this was some quickie, jiffy lube place that has a nice room for coffee and a donut place - AND this really is a quart and a half too full of who knows what (like a bartender's stick to fill) you play with fire with those place however handy and fast.
One near me (no names) is the #1 engine buyer for screwing up! Engines full of brake fluid to anything you can imagine - yikes!
Over or under filled if true is UNACCEPTIBLE. May have run engine for minutes before remembering to put oil back in it was common.
Understood how handy those places are for a hurried life and those three people in the world still employed and overworked but it scares the snots out of me. Been to one with someone and waited till they remove 5 quarts too much in their car as mine would never see that.
Did a million LOFs (lube, oil and filter) jobs that took an hour or more checking for real all fluids, lube door hinges and locks, check spare tire pressure etc with a steadfast clientele that knew the car was checked out and if a fluid was low would suggest that shouldn't be so it needs another visit or if found right away said what to fix and how long the extra wait or the car would stay or go out for a repair - me or whoever but there was a problem found. I was expensive and owners welcome to watch and would show them a problem.
People are doing the right thing to service their cars but doing it right and complete isn't coffee and a donut place. Seems like a brain dead service but not so. Lots can happen and if you don't know to warn a customer that a fluid was low that shouldn't be you got screwed for lack of know how on their part. That not to make more work but to warn a customer. Take it where you want. {personally would show them the problem found.
If this engine got damaged they or those places are responsible and insured or should be for hiring non mechanics to work on expensive cars at a great risk of screwing up. Wrong filters - the list too long and so on.
Even real shops can screw up but the donut shop places so handy take the cake. Don't get me wrong they can be good but I seriously worry. First answer is the problem was there already - ha. With some documentation cars were fixed without a fight. They know it happens and factor it in.
I've repaired more stripped out drain plugs for cars from those places than I can count too. Most were newly acquired used cars. Brand new place locally has a big sign 10 minutes to do this service?! They don't drain your oil they suck it out thru dipstick!

Will append signature sign off to say I'm long retired now but quality work isn't a 10 minute job and never was if that was the case here.
