Sign In Hi my dad has a 2001 mustang with a 3.8L V6 and everytime he starts it up the engine near the valve cover on the drvier side makes a clicking sound. It makes the noise for a minute of less or until it warms up then stops. Can anyone tell me what can be making tht noise plz?? Could be a weak lifter taking time to 'pump up'. How many miles on engine? Oil changes done, regularily? Sign In favian; I'd recommend that he have the oil and filter changed every 2,000 miles for the next four or five times. I know that I'll take some heat over this, but tell him not to use any parafin based oil (Quaker State or Pennzoil). He may even want to switch over to a synthetic oil, like Amsoil. It's expensive, but so is an engine.
