Hello all,
I have a 2001 pontiac grand am, 4 cy 4 dr with 148000 miles on it. never had a major problem till last week. I was driving along when I heard a loud screach type of sound and then I lost my drive. car will stay in park But does not engage in and gear at all, could this be a simple fix or is my tranny totaly shot ? I can't check the fluid becasue the manufactoror Did Not put a dip stick in the car  ??? just a fill cap.
there was No fluid loss No slipping nothing just a screach type of sound and that was it ! Done going up a hill in a 45 mph zone
I am hoping theres maybe a pin or something ion the gear box ? maybe but with this type of millage I don't feel its worth paying a shop 2000 to fix when the engine maybe next. I always took good care of it and changed oil every 2k miles did belts plugs you name it doenwhen it was supposed to be. any and all feedback would be great Thanks John
