Hey guys i have a 2001 Dodge Intrepid that im having problems with. The car ran out of water and instantly over heated. We got the car home and it had a knocking noise and was running very rough so we thought it might have been the head gasket. So i check the compression of each cylinder and all of them are fine at around 120 lbs, but as we were pulling out the spark plugs to check the compression we noticed that cylinders 3.4. and 5 had a lot of oil in them. The spark plugs were just dripping with oil. The spark plugs were also work out to the point that im not sure they were even firing right. So i replace all of the spark plugs and changed the oil and it eliminated some of the roughness, but there is still a bad knocking noise coming from the engine and i have no idea what it is. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The oil is more than likely from the v/c plug seals leaking & allowing oil to get in to the tube. While not a major engine problem, on a "good" engine it would need to be fixed so the wires wouldn't get damaged....

On yours, being overheated and driven, just from the sounds of it sounds like there is some internal damage....

I can't hear the knock, so would suggest getting a trained ear to take a listen to it.....

You didn't actually say it in your post, but this really sounds like the car overheat & you continued to drive it to "get home". If this was the case, I can't tell you what a bad idea that is. Once you overheat you need to stop & either fix the problem there or tow it.
I won't go on & on but will tell you, I've personally seen dozens cars driven while overheating that ruined engines, where if they had just stopped & towed the car they would have been looking at minor to moderate repairs......(one was a bypass hose!!!! a $20 hose that ruined a 3k motor!!!)

The common theme was always " I was just trying to make it home"
