My 2001 Honda Civic has had trouble starting for a few weeks. If I've been driving for more than 10-15 minutes, I can't restart it. After the car is idle for an hour or so, it will restart. My mechanic replaced the fuel pump relay. Same problem. He then replaced the fuel pump. Still doing the same thing. I noticed today that after driving for only 10 minutes my temperature gauge went all the way above the red(H), but the car did not show signs of actually overheating (no smoke, no banging noises, etc.) I continued driving for 5 more minutes and then attempted to restart the car....would not restart. Waited an hour...and it starts. Is this the coolant temperature sensor? Something else? There is no check engine light coming on so no diagnostic to run. I'm afraid to bring it back in without knowing because I don't want to keep sinking money into this car.

Get better code readings they can be there without CEL or icon lighted. You probably are overheating if you think you have to wait for it to just about explode to believe it. Run heater - bet it goes cold with high heat request if no other or better way that's good proof. No doubt engine is cutting off fuel delivery during an overheat and probably much more to fix now that you keep driving it. All must work - must know fan(s) to radiator at least come on. Can't know all layouts but fan for A/C on some isn't useful for cooling the radiator so much - know which if two is primary for what, T

Hahaha................. when the smoking and banging shows up it's already too late and you have probably destroyed the engine at that point. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
