2001 Grand Prix wont stay running,idle ok

2001 pontiac grand prix 3.1 85k
starts fine, seems to be missing just a tad, but when gas pedal is pressed car will rev to 2500 - 3000 rpm, then slowly backs off/lowers rpm or just dies if i continue to depress on the gas pedal, if I lift foot off of pedal, then car idles normally...??? any suggestions?
to be noted fuel pressure regulator was replaced to fix a flooding problem.....fixed and car started, now this problem,

Sounds like a fuel pressure issue. You need to use a fuel pressure gauge and monitor the pressure as the problem occurs.
