2001 Chev Blazer 4.3L Help, Please!! Sign In

I have a 2001 Blazer 4.3L. It had an exhaust check valve go bad and burn some wiring and blow some fuses. I fixed all that but now it is having another problem that I can't figure out.It will start and idle fine. It starts out running fine till you get to between 30 and 40 mph. It is an automatic. At this point the rpms drop down to idle speed even with your foot on the gas. After about 40 to 50 seconds it will pick back up and run fine till you slow down below 30 mph. When it goes through the rpm drop and finally shifts this time it will jerk a couple times and then run fine.I have a pocket scanner that brings up the maf/vaf code. Will this senser cause these types of running problems? Thanks for any help.Ken

Yes a Mass Air Flow sensor can cause this; the MAF tell the PCM how many grams of air, per-second is entering the engine. The PCM uses this information to calculate fuel mixture.
I haven’t had to replace many of these sensors, but maybe your burnt wiring has shorted it out or you don’t have all the wiring repaired properly?

Thanks, Dan. I really appreciate the help. I've had people around here that thought they knew it all tell me that a maf senser would not cause the car to run like that. Even though the code keeps pulling it up. I will first recheck and make sure my wiring is right and then get another senser.

Thanks again,

Ken

I guess I should have said that a MAF sensor and its circuit can cause this. What I mean is that the sensor itself might be fine but like we’ve already talked, the wiring could be buggered. Or when the wiring was buggered it could have damaged the PCM (computer)?
It’s your dime, if you want to try a new sensor or you could take the truck in and have it diagnosed?
