2000 ford taurus Sign In

I have a 2000 ford taurus, 3.0 dohc 24 valve motor. I had a vaccum leak. I replaced the intake and plentium gaskets. I did not use rvt or anything on the new gaskets, cause 1. the old ones didnt look like they had any before 2. I was told with these type of gaskets I didnt need any. WAS I WRONG??? Also I still hear a slight vaccum leak, is that just air moving though the plentium??? I also think there is now a bit of coolant in the oil ( not real sure) could that be from the gasket replacement gone wrong or a head gasket??? Also the engine although there is no check engine light on it is still running very rough. any help would be appreciated

Doesn't coolant run thru that upper plenum gasket? If so some may have gotten in oil when changing it?? If there before could be another source.

Vacuum leak making noise would be easy to find with just spraying carb cleaner in area. No change in idle if no leak. Use with caution and sparingly if tried.

You may have head gasket issues and would check for that as well. Compression testing, cooling system pressure test - whatever it takes. Many will show on a spark plug that doesn't look like the others when pulled as more info on what's going on,

You were correct in not using any sealant on those gaskets, non is required...

It's possible you are just hearing air in the plenum. Usually if you have a vacuum leak it will set a P0171 & P0174 trouble code....

You never mentioned if you had any codes before. If you did and cleared them, the misfire moniter won't work to set a code until the crank profile is relearned. On Fords this can take a while to relearn. You need to go from 40mph to 60mph, take your foot off the throttle & coast, without touching the brk or turning the wheel for 10 seconds and it has to be done 3 times...

If your scanner has mode $06 capabilities, go to $06, TID 53 and you can check for misfires there. It's not live but will show individual cyl misfires...
