My 2000 Plymouth Breeze is over revving drastically. The bolt in my starter fell out and I had to put a new one in, when I did this I had to remove the throttle body to get to the spot to put in the bolt. When I put everything back together and started it the engine surged and I had to turn it off. It did not seem to surge as bad in gear so I drove it home but I almost burned up my breaks trying to keep from speeding. The accelerator is not sticking and I tested the throttle position sensor and it seems okay. What could cause this engine surge?

You could have a major vacuum leak at the throttle body. Pinched the throttle body gasket? Make sure all vacuum lines are connected? Make sure throttle cam is sitting on its stop with your foot off the accelerator? Back trace your steps and see where things went wrong.

Thank You. it was that simple, i guess when i put it back together something was not tight or just did not seal right. I took it back apart and cleaned the surfaces and no problems. You could have simply said "Patience Grasshopper".
