If engine light has come on, your car has identified a problem. If possible drive it to a mechanic or a dealership and get them to run the diagnostic tool on it. It will plug into your cars brain and the car will tell you EXACTLY what it thinks is wrong. Have the codes read and post back. The head gaskets are around 50$ if you buy them. A shop will mark them up some. One head is about 6.5 hours labor and both heads are about 8 hours. So figure up hourly rate and add it up. Also remember there are other things that need done. Like having the head checked for warpage, having the valve seats checked or repaired, other gaskets that need replaced due to removal. So there is some added expenses that wil;l be added by the shop.
